Call for sponsorship – TAFI UK runs the half marathon!

On 27 September 2009, TAFI UK Director Yishay Mor and Manager Leo Williams will be running the ‘Run to the Beat’ half marathon to raise money for TAFI’s  Language as a Cultural Bridge Initiative.

Between the two of them, TAFI UK will thus be running a full marathon – that’s 26.2 miles, or 42.2 kilometers!

We are hoping to raise £2500 in order to support the amazing work of The Abraham Fund Initiatives in Israel – specifically the Language as a Cultural Bridge Initiative. £2500 would enable us to fund the annual teaching hours of colloquial Arabic for two classes in Jewish public schools, as part of the Language as a Cultural Bridge initiative. It would also fund training costs of two Arabic teachers, giving them the skills required to teach our specifically designed ‘Ya Salaam’ curriculum.

The Language as a Cultural Bridge initiative aims to build a sustainable and replicable model of communicative Arabic language and Arabic cultural instruction that can be applied throughout the Jewish public school system, and will promote the status of Arabic language and Arab culture in Israel. The immediate goal is the acquisition of Arabic language skills by Jewish school children and a greater understanding of Arab culture. From this, we expect to see attitudinal and behavioural changes amongst Jewish students, teachers, parents and principals that reflect a greater acceptance of and openness toward Arabs, their language, and their culture.

We would appreciate each and every donation, no matter what size! In order to donate quickly, safely and securely, simply click here.

Donating through our BMyCharity fundraising page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent the charity will receive an extra 28% at no cost to you.

Thank you for your support.
